The prehistory of the American Southwest and Mexico is a fascinating study. It includes Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado. The Anasazi Culture is best known on the Colorado Plateau, but further south the Salado, Sinagua, Hohokam, Mogollon, and Trincheras all represent large groups that made lives throughout Arizona and the border region of Mexico.

The structure lay in the crossroads of several regional prehistoric groups, mainly the Kayenta Anasazi and the Sinagua, but groups like the Cohonina (who lived further to the west) and the Winslow Anasazi groups infiltrated this area from their home to the east.
