Tucson's Day of the Dead Procession began 20 years ago today and has become a sister celebration to the All Saints and All Souls Catholic celebrations practiced in Mexico and in border cities.
In Mexico, family and friends turn out to clean and tidy graves, enjoy a meal and party, realizing their deceased family members and friends are there, too, celebrating in the spirit realm. In Tucson, the procession is a cross between All Saints Day and performance art.
