SUNRISE CEREMONY Pollen-covered Fayreen and Farren are all smiles at their coming of age ceremony...Twelve year old Fayreen and Farren Holden, identical twins born 6 minutes apart, celebrated their coming of age last weekend with a four-day Apache Sunrise Ceremony.This age old ceremony initates young Apache women in to womenhood and prepares them for the long journey through life. The Double Ceremony was sponsored by mom, Joycelyn Holden and Nathaniel and Denise Cosay.Sunrise ceremonies are held on both the White Mountain and San Carlos Apache Reservations beginning in May and carry through into the fall each year and the ceremony is the "coming of age" puberty rite which has been celebrated by the Apache for centuries.....
